The basics of effective medical cleaning

Who?

All healthcare and medical environments.

What?

All shared equipment and items that have been touched during patient care require cleaning and disinfection.

When?

Prior to reuse on another patient.

Follow the five cleaning concepts that you need to know

Shake the dispenser or packaging to distribute the liquid through the wipes prior to opening the lid.

If using a refill, pull the middle sheet through the lid to start using the wipes.

Always work from clean to dirty.

Work in an “s” shapeDo not repeat the same area twice with the same wipe as you will decontaminate.

Always ensure that all the surfaces are covered with the CleanLIFE disinfectant wipe. Depending on the equipment size, you may need to use several wipes.

The surface must be wet and allowed to dry for the appropriate contact time to kill any organisms before reuse.

Once the contact time is completed the equipment can be dried if not already dry with a clean lint-free disposable cloth.

Why?

As the World Health Organisation states, defective infection control and prevention causes harm and can kill.
